international pastor of mystery

It's finally done. The green '99 Chrysler Town & Country mini-van with the awesome cassette deck system has been sold to the lowest bidder after eight long months. After scores of bazaar conversations with shady potential would-be buyers (including calls from people in several states & countries away in New York, Georgia and London!) I had to swallow my pride and practically give it away. That hurt. What feels good, is that I don't have to worry about driving off the winding Maryland roads with a steering system that only worked when it wanted to. I would never know when I turned that bad boy on if today was the day that the steering was going to work properly or if my exhaust system was going to fall off. I would drive the 8 miles to work with white knuckles and shallow breathing and collapse in my office each morning as if I just accomplished a major international operation of some global importance. It was as if I was Danny Dangerously, International Pastor of Mystery, trying to thwart constant attempts to make my vehicle not work properly. (Throw me a bone. We live near the National Security Agency aka. Spy Country.) |
| If I had a clue how to work on cars, or the funds for pay someone else to do the major repairs, I may have been able to salvage it. At the end of the day, we decided to say farewell. Lara & I are doing the Happy Dance around the Christmas Tree now that we no longer have two mini-vans in the driveway, not to mention the 47 rust-drip spots where the van used to sit and frequent conversations with people on the other side of the Atlantic ... The best news is that we can save money on the car insurance for a vehicle that I was scared to drive ... Farewell white knuckles and international spy missions ... I think I'll celebrate by calling someone on my cell-shoe ... | |

Congrats! I know I experienced the same relief when we got rid of old red.
